Venice Film Festival Awards The Shape of Water With Coveted Golden Lion
Guerillmo Del Toro’s latest film The Shape Of Water took home the Venice Film Festivals top prize after rave reviews. The period fairy tale starring Sally Hawkins is the first film from a Mexican director to earn the award. The last American film to do so was Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere. Martin McDonagh’s Three Bilboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home an award for top screenplay. Both of the aforementioned films are figuring to be Oscar favorites.

Apple, Amazon Among Suitors For James Bond Distribution Rights
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Budding film studio Amazon Studios is looking to secure distribution rights for the James Bond franchise. Among others interested are Apple, who’s library of original content is small but the tech giant is looking to grow into the streaming business. MGM and Eon Productions currently own the film rights, but Sony’s deal to distribute the franchise ended in 2015.

Amazon Cancels The Last Tycoon
On a day that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos demanded a programming strategy shift, the streaming site cancelled their period drama The Last Tycoon. Starring Matt Bomer and Kelsey Grammer the series lasted just one season after debuting last month on Amazon Prime Video.

Disney Annoucnes New Streaming Site Will Include Marvel, Star Wars
Weeks after announcing they would be pulling their content from Netflix in the near future, Disney announced they would be taking Marvel and Star Wars properties with them. Originally unsure of the decision, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced they would be taking the mega properties with them.
